Paviljoen … aan het Water
A meeting place along the quay
Pavilion … aan het Water is a new cultural space at the Maashaven, the first public spot on the waterfront of Charlois. The former canteen of the waste incinerator AVR gets a second life as a local restaurant with cooking initiatives from the neighbourhood and a platform for inhabitants with ideas.
After the renovation we started with a pop-up restaurant, social-cultural program and a community garden. The program is set up together with the inhabitants, local artists, initiators, local civil society organisations and entrepreneurs.
In the summer the pavilion offers tasty and payable food from the neighbourhood. You can enjoy fresh, homemade food with a spectacular view of the skyline of Rotterdam. Every weekend another team cooks. We have three teams of amateur cooks, all living in the neighbourhood.
In the winter months the pavilion is a production space for international artists focussing on communal art. Also the venue is used as a podium for talent from the neighbourhood and offers a broad cultural program with Music, film and art.
Foundation Charlois aan het Water is responsible for the pavilion. The long term goal of the non-profit foundation is a sustainable connection between the harbour along the Maashaven and the neighbourhood of Charlois.
