Langs de Rijn
Temporary park along the Maashaven
For three months inhabitants of the Tarwewijk could use an empty piece of quay as a park. The park is set up as blueprint of the River Rhine/Maas with route signs designed by primary school children of the Tarwewijk. For this exhibition the children made drawings of existing and also dream cities along the river. They also draw river boats and dream boats.
The route signs are the results of the educational program “River navigation meets Playstation-generation” which is set up by Vitibuck to introduce children from the neighbourhood to river shipping and other harbour related activities.
During the opening of the exhibition by local politician Zeki Baran the best 20 drawings were revealed. As an extra the children of Group 6 of the OBS De Globe got a guided tour through the training ship of the Netherlands Maritime University. And who knows maybe one day these children will be at the helm of such a ship.
Background
With this educational program Vitibuck wants to broaden the living environment of the children in the Tarwewijk, a socially and economically neglected neighbourhood.
The temporary park and exhibition show opportunities how to use the quay and offer good public space to the neighbourhood.
